About The Owner

Designer Michael Gavin has a long history in design and home improvement. He began his career at Mayfair Design Group, Albany, New York, as one of their youngest designers. He went on to work for Portfolio Design Studio where he became their nationally recognized top decorator. Michael soon became the studio’s national spokesperson conducting seminars throughout the United States. Many of his projects and ideas were featured in regional and national magazines including Ladies Home Journal. It was during this period that Michael really fine-tuned his renovation skills by purchasing and refurbishing homes in his spare time.

Michael craves the energy, challenge and satisfaction in finding a distressed property and turning it around. Once he found and subsequently purchased Bridgewater Hall Inn, he and his sons, Jeff and Mack, have been diligently preserving, restoring and enhancing it back to its original beauty. The 4,700-square-foot house sits on nearly five acres of land and the property now includes a newly renovated chapel, a gazebo overlooking the old Catawba River, a bridal suite and honeymoon cottage.

Michael’s vision is to restore Bridgewater Hall Historic Inn into a breathtaking oasis for small weddings, special events and overnight get-aways.

“We hope you enjoy your stay at Bridgewater Hall Historic Inn. We have worked hard to reinvent this historic property, preserving it’s natural beauty while making it comfortable and inviting. We look forward to hosting your wedding or special event ensuring it will be an occasion that you and your guests will never forget.”

Bridgewater Hall is simply stunning. When my wife and I decided to get married, there was no other place we would dream of going. The moment you pull in, you’re greeted by magic and beauty. Fairy tales could only dream of settings like these. From the unique chapel, to the entrance, to the courtyard and kitchen, and that stunning library. The entire grounds are perfect for socializing, pictures, celebrations, and just plain fun. Southern charm, mixed with a historic vibe, wrapped in a velvet blanket of inviting, interior luxuries. It’s amazing.

When my wife and I decided to get married, there was no other place we would have chosen.  The ceremony in the chapel was such a once in a lifetime experience, it made our day that much more special. Moving into the main hall was again, unique. Walking up those stairs to the main entrance, it embodied our love of southern charm, then walking inside switches from that to elegance. We felt like royalty. Michael’s decorating touches and kindness, and the hard work he and his sons put in were absolutely top notch. When you’re there, you’re taken care of in the best way. Everyone at our wedding had a fantastic time, and everyone had a smile on their face for the entire event. Without a doubt, Bridgewater Hall, Michael and his sons, MADE that experience for us. We’re not sure it would have been as good without them on our side! Our kids had a blast too!

Ashley mentioned that you wanted a write up on Bridgewater. Below is a first stab at something that I am hoping you can use. Let me know if this is what you are looking for. I am happy to add things you want to highlight or mention. I tried to paint a picture of a nice relaxing place with plenty to do in the area. It’s all honest feedback, we truly enjoy the property and visiting.

Bridgewater is a fantastic place to get away from the craziness of modern living. Its set in a quiet rural area with a large stream bordering the property. The property is loaded with history and has so many architectural details we were constantly noticing something that seemed to tell a story. The layout of the property is great for a quick weekend get away or a destination for multiple couples. My wife and I enjoy heading into Morganton for a good dinner and night life. There are great wineries in the area as well. Its also a short drive to Asheville and the mountains. Bridgewater is simply a great place to slow down and recharge.

Bridgewater Hall is the perfect setting for an intimate wedding. The gorgeous white chapel has so much character with its beautiful green stained glass windows and old church pews. It’s so incredibly inviting and looked absolutely amazing with flowers from Golden Gate Florist. I could go on forever about how this venue came to life for our wedding.

Not only was it the perfect setting, but Michael Gavin and his two sons were wonderful hosts. They catered to everyone of my needs and the needs of my guest, always so helpful and polite. I felt so thankful to be surrounded by Michael’s upbeat personality and his true concern for making my day day magical. Having my wedding at Bridgewater Hall was everything I dreamed of and more, a real fairy tale.
